Next week you will be taking your semester final in my class. Remember that this is worth 20% of your overall grade. I will share with you your cumulative grades before you take the final so you know exactly what you need to pass the class.
You MUST complete this assignment before the Final Exam. If you do not do this assignment, I cannot give you a camera that day. You will have to complete the assignment and take photos for your Final Exam when we return from Christmas break. You will get an Incomplete for your Final Exam grade. Do NOT let this happen. You can do this assignment anytime after 12/12, so if you want to get it done before the day of the final, you will have more time to go out and take photos.
Here is the assignment:
Photo Composition
Look through the Composition rules on the following website.
http://www.photographymad.com/pages/view/10-top-photography-composition-rules
Please pick a theme, I don't care what theme you choose: football, guitars, Justin Beiber, whatever.
Then use Google image search and find photos relating to your theme.
Find 1 photo that show good examples of the following 10 photo composition rules. Take a screen shot of the image (shift + command +4). Post each image on your Google Site. Show me that you understand these rules. Make sure to label each photo = which rule, i.e. label your photos with the proper rule title. .
You must find one Photo for each of the following that shows me you understand the composition rule. Post that photo and label it. That means you will find 10 DIFFERENT photos that clearly shows each rule. CLEARLY.
HINT: If you type in your theme and the rule name, sometimes you can find a photo that works really well, for example: guitar leading lines, or guitar framing...it doesn't always work, but most of the time you will find something.
1. Rule of thirds
2. Balancing Elements
3. Leading Lines
4. Symmetry and Patterns (repetition)
5. Viewpoint
6. Background
7. Create depth
8. Framing
9. Cropping
10. Experimentation - anything that doesn't look like the other ones - this could be an unusual angle, tilting the camera, motion blur, etc.
